Second U.S. soldier killed in Iraq near Makhmour front
A U S soldier died near the front line with Islamic State militants in Makhmour, Iraqi authorities said, becoming the second combat casualty of the campaign. Mortars struck a small U.S. base there around 8:20 a.m., with officials noting the attack may have been aimed at the Iraqi army or the U S installation. The base sits near Kurdish peshmerga forces guarding the area as reinforcements gather for Mosul operations. the first combat death occurred in Hawija in October.
