Coles Named Lorain County Agent in Unanimous Vote
Associate County Agricultural Agent Charles Coles was unanimously chosen by the Lorain County Extension Council to be the new County Agent, replacing Carl Deeds who departs April 1. The vote occurred in a special session at the YMCA, following a recommendation from the Extension Service in Columbus. Coles joined the extension office in 1951 after four years as Vocational Agriculture teacher at New London High School and is an Ohio State University graduate in Agricultural Education.

James Anderson 59 of 193 South Park street died at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a truck train collision at the Chestnut Ridge crossing. He was a Dandrea and Nardini Construction driver and WWII veteran. Survived by wife Ethel and two stepdaughters. 150 Known Dead In Turkish Quake
A violent earthquake struck western Turkey killing at least 150 people and injuring many. The Istanbul Observatory reported ongoing shocks and noted the seismograph was damaged. Genen near the quake zone suffered heavy damage with dozens of deaths and hundreds of homes destroyed. Marines Repel Two Chinese Attacks Near Seoul
In Korea near Bunker Hill and Bunker Hall Marine units repelled two Chinese assaults. A Chinese company of about 200 moved against the western front and was decimated by artillery and mortars, with 25 confirmed killed and 50 more killed plus 65 wounded estimated. A second company near Bunker Hill fought at close range for 90 minutes before withdrawing with nine dead.
