U S Navy jets hit the Bac Giang power plant east of Hanoi with 1000 pound bombs as Marines in South Vietnam suffer 81 casualties in heavy clashes with elite Communist troops. In Saigon sea channel, USS Conqueror takes shell hits but presses toward port amid damage and casualties. Air Force B 52 strikes target troop concentrations near the coast and near the Cambodian border. Army 4th Infantry and operations in War Zone C report multiple enemy dead and U.S. casualties.
King Winter unleashed ice and several inches of snow across Lorain County and nearby areas as temperatures fell and winds roared. Schools in Midview Keystone Black River Sheffield-Sheffield Lake and the county for the mentally retarded closed while Avon and Lake Ridge Academy faced bus and road woes. Police logged several minor accidents though no serious injuries reported as authorities warned motorists to slow down and stay cautious.

He posted a $1,000 bond and was suspended from his post. A separate preliminary hearing on Jim Garrison’s case against Clay Shaw continued with Perry Russo testifying about plots to kill Kennedy.
The Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank reports Elyria check writing up over 15 percent in February from January with a daily average of 3.74 million dollars. Lorain shows a 7.6 percent February drop versus January though higher than February 1985, totaling 69.58 million.

Elyria marks its 150th anniversary on March 17 1817 with a museum exhibit at Lorain County Historical Society 331 Fifth St. The display features original land deeds survey map dated 1816 and letters from Justin Ely to Heman Ely. The historical rooms will be open free on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from 2 to 5 for public viewing.
John Herbert Snitch a 19 year old Marine radio operator from Sheffield Lake died of wounds from a premature fragmentation grenade during a search and destroy mission in Quang Gnai Vietnam. He graduated Brookside High School in 1966 sang in the school choir and was close to Eagle Scout rank. He leaves a twin sister a brother two other brothers and parents Mr and Mrs Leonard Snitch of 755 Howell St. His body will be brought home for burial in about two weeks.
Sheriff John J. McCloskey could arrest Adam Clayton Powell on a warrant for criminal contempt tied to a Harlem widow's judgment. Powell's lawyer Henry Williams warned a move to execute the order, including on Palm Sunday, could prompt a lawsuit against the sheriff.
