Train Kills Driver After He Reaches For Shoe
Joseph G. Brand 48 of South Lyon Michigan died when his overturned truck was struck by an eastbound freight train on the U S 250 crossing of the New York Central tracks three miles south of Fitchville. He had crawled from the wreck to retrieve a shoe, and while other truckers set fuses, the train struck. The locomotive engineer stopped the train promptly. Brand's body was recovered and sent to a New London funeral home pending family arrival.

Man loses leg in Elyria factory accident
An Elyria factory worker, Enrico Fratta, age 46, suffered a severe injury at work yesterday morning at the Manufacturers and Fabricators Division on Filbert Street. He was in fair condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a sheet of stainless steel slipped from his grasp, severing his lower left leg above the ankle. surgeons amputated below the knee.
