Cascade Park suffered extensive damage in the Black River surge with playgrounds and roads ruined in lower areas. Tennis courts backstops and court dirt likely washed away while canoe house tool sheds and part of the fence were destroyed. Bears were unharmed as water neared the bear pit but receded without rescue.
Heavy rains and record water levels caused major damage to roads and bridges. County surveyor and state highway crews rerouted traffic as floods closed Route 18 and Mill Hollow Road. Lower Butternut Ridge residents fled rising waters, and Penfield faced isolation as Black River rose, recalling a 1913 flood.
The Senate Finance Committee amended the House 3.2 percent beer bill to include wine and fruit juices and ordered a favorable report. Roosevelt aims to sign this week to legalize beer with sale possible 15 days after signing. House approved unrestricted manufacture and sale of 32 percent beer by a 316 to 97 vote.
Senate leaders imposed a 30 minute limit on speeches and 15 minutes on amendments to push through Roosevelt's $500 million economy bill. The two day debate focused on reducing the $900 million annual veterans' appropriation with Democrats backing the bill but offering several amendments.

Commissioner C vp Murray proposed pooling two thirds of gas and auto tax receipts for poor relief, replacing ongoing relief bonds. The plan to use existing funds will start immediately while the bond idea is further considered.

A deadly tornado cut a path from Missouri to Virginia, killing 30 and injuring at least 500. Eighteen deaths occurred in the Cumberland Mountain area near the Kentucky Tennessee line, with seven in Pruden Tennessee and eight in Kingsport Tennessee. National Guardsmen mobilized in Nashville as rescuers search debris and hospitals report numerous critical injuries amid power outages and hail.
The Medina Kiwanis Club was honored at a Newell Hotel dinner with 26 members present plus many local members. Judge AR Webber and Bob Burns attended as guests. Rev W C Fowler spoke on undeveloped resources of this country. The club plans to take the Fellowship Chest to Wellington March 23.
MIAMI BEACH Florida March 10 The theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from prominent winter colonists including 80000 from Grace Moore opera singer was solved today police announced Harry Admore 28 of New York confessed to possessing 500000 dollars in stolen gems in a safety deposit box Sidmore wintering here for 11 years admitted the thefts and expressed sympathy for Miss Moore over underreported losses His box was to be opened later today
Elyria bankers announced that the State banking department in Columbus will expedite a study of local bank statements and announce decisions soon. They agreed to continue deposits for segregated accounts and to restrict withdrawals from old accounts while awaiting a normal operating basis.
About 2499 signatures have been gathered for the gas ordinance referendum well above the required amount. Sixty-five petition circulators held a semi final checkup at the hall, with circulation continuing until Saturday evening before submission to the central committee for review. Councilmen Smith Curtis and Leonard Smith praised the strong public response to the petitions.
Flood waters from the Black Red overflow washed away the Resar Floral Company pumping station and power plant on East River Road 7, causing damage estimated in the hundreds of dollars.

Refunds would be funded from gasoline taxes, start January 1, 1933, and span five years, with an estimated total state cost of 19.5 million dollars.
Japanese and Chinese forces mass along the Great Wall of China on March 15. Japanese Major General Heijiro Hattori commands infantry brigades building fortifications with two additional detachments nearby. Chinese troops also reinforce the opposite flank with infantry and artillery.
Police and the sheriff's department investigated an attempted burglary at Oberlin College's administration building around 8 p m. Two men fled the scene after entering by forcing a window. The vault door was damaged but the vault remained locked and no fingerprints were recovered. Small sums of money and checks were untouched.
March 15 Frank J Corr, a first term alderman backed by Democratic leaders, was named temporary mayor of Chicago. The appointment marks a brief leadership change in the city’s government.
President Roosevelt will submit a two point unemployment relief program to Congress soon. It calls for immediate employment of at least 200000 men in national forests and other government projects not conflicting with existing work. The plan also seeks farm relief including abandoning unproductive lands and reducing acreage.
The Ohio state banking department in Columbus raced to finish examinations of state bank reports to license sound institutions for reopening today under Roosevelt's plan. Several banks were approved to reopen, with others still under inspection. openings boosted deposits and public confidence while leaders faced personnel changes at the Federal Reserve.
