Northwestern, the 11th seed, stunned No. 6 Iowa 67-62 in Indianapolis as Demps scored 20 and Crawford 15 with six assists. The win makes Northwestern the first 11th seed to win a Big Ten Tournament game, setting up a quarterfinal clash with Michigan State.
In a tight closing sequence the Buckeyes survive a late Purdue charge 63 61. Sam Thompson sealed the win with an alley oop as Ohio State clung to a 59 54 lead late. Craft and Ross led with 16 and 19 points respectively as Purdue, despite injuries, fought to the end.
Akron, the No. 4 seed, defeated Ohio 83 77 behind Demetrius Treadwell 19 points 11 rebounds. Quincy Diggs added 20, Nick Kellogg led Ohio with 25 as Akron advances to face Western Michigan in the semifinals.
Ebony Rowe led No. 22 Middle Tennessee with 29 points and 15 rebounds to beat eighth-seeded Alabama-Birmingham 69-59 in El Paso securing the Blue Raiders ninth straight win. Ball State edged Buffalo 71 percent free throws while Akron built a 57-point first half to defeat Toledo in Cleveland.
