O'Neil Shopping Center Starts Next Week in Lorain County

O'Neil-Sheffield Inc a new Ohio firm announces land purchase for a nine 90 acre O'Neil Shopping Center site at State Route 254 and Route 57 in Sheffield township Lorain county Water is installed and a $5 000 000 project planned Sewage connections planned with Lorain city system The Sam Emerson Company of Cleveland to build the center with local labor The center will include a 120000 square foot O'Neil store escalators an auditorium and four rental units Parking for 3000 cars expandable to 5000 Leases with major tenants to follow. opening now forecast for early 1954 The center will be the seventh O'Neil branch behind Alliance Barberton Cuyahoga Falls Mansfield Massillon and Coshocton

Tanker Angy split at sea. 28 saved as 8 go missing

Twenty eight crewmen were rescued from the stern of the burned tanker Angy after drifting three days in a North Atlantic storm. Eight missing include the captain, his wife, and three mates. The Angy, Liberian flagged, was chartered by Gulf Oil. The Claiborne rescued survivors and reported heavy seas, high winds, and poor visibility. Coast Guard cutters and a search plane moved toward Cherbourg to recover any bow section and missing crew.

Home Show Attracts 2700 Visitors On Opening Night

More Than 2700 Elyrians visited the Second Annual Home and Better Living Show at Roll Arena on Cleveland Street. The event, sponsored by the Elyria Lions Club, runs 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. daily this week with exhibits from sewing machines to air conditioning units and spring flowers on display.

Red Cross Campaign Reaches 43 Percent In First Ten Days

In 1953 Red Cross fund drive, workers reported $117,186.05 raised in ten days, 43 percent of the $39,712 goal. Campaign leaders urged teams and division chairmen to intensify efforts to meet the goal by the second report meeting on March 18 at the YMCA.

Local Skywatch Group Plans Thursday Evening Meeting

An Elyria High School auditorium meeting will organize the Ground Observer Corps post at 8 p.m. Thursday. Air Force personnel Civil Defense officials and film shows will explain the post and how volunteers can report aircraft movements by phone to the Filter Center. Registration will occur during the session with Douglas Nichols Paul Root and Sgt. Gene Stedman coordinating the program.

28 Men Sent To Cleveland For Pre Induction Exam

Draft Board No. 72 sent 28 men to Cleveland this morning for pre induction physical examinations. Miss Catherine McKee, clerk, reported 13 men from the board and 18 transferred from other boards. Group leader was Charles D Swineford of R D Amherst. They departed by bus at 7 30.

Two men from Lorain County sentenced on morals and non support charges face parole from the penitentiary. Ludwig Setinsek is slated for release April 2 while Cecil Dalton is set for June 3.
