Fire Destroys Plant And Machinery At Rush Street Plant

Firemen fought for two hours and forty minutes to control a blaze at the Iran ite Concrete Block and Coal Company on Rush Street. The loss, estimated at 215000 by General Manager Louis Beaumont, destroyed the plant and machinery though the coal yard escaped. The Savings Deposit Bank and Trust Company owned the building. Plans to resume production were outlined as Beaumont considered rebuilding or relocating. The fire started likely from an overheated furnace or a spark from dipping forms. Four hose lines fought the blaze under freezing conditions drawing spectators as a three story wooden elevator and storage bin created a dramatic scene.
