City Council approved pay hikes for Elyria's mayor law director and auditor effective Jan 1. Mayor Bill Grace earns 99 400 up from 96 950 while Law Director Terry Pete Shilling rises to 94 100 and Auditor Ted Pileski to 88 900. The rise, set before a new term, follows a 2007 ordinance covering 2008 to 2011.
The record lists multiple donation amounts across years for individuals Ted Pileski and Bill Grace. Figures include $89,550 in 2007 and $94,100 in 2010 for Pileski, with several mid-range totals and a 2010 figure of $88,900. Grace shows $94,550, $96,950 and a $5,365.84 entry among other totals.
Early Tuesday a fire at 114 Highland Court spread to the Rose home at 112 Highland Court in Elyria. George Rose opened the door but could not use it to escape with his seven children ages 4 months to 16 years. He kicked out a window to escape as flames filled the dining room.
The Rose family led by Sakeena Lozado and George Rose credit a Tuesday night event for saving lives. They describe their children George Ill Sakeena Vargas Sherry Chad and Richard as safe and unharmed after the incident.

The Elyria Holiday Inn, in receivership over a $6.3 million Beal Bank loan, heads to sheriff's sale April 21 with opening bids at $2.882 million. Beal Bank may bid up to the full loan amount. the hotel remains in operation under receiver Tom Pratt of BBP Partners.
