Contempt citation sought against garbage strikers
A motion requesting a contempt of court citation against union members involved in the strike against Brotherton Disposal Co was scheduled for hearing at 2 30 p m today before Common Pleas Judge Paul J Mikus Attorney Don Pace of Baker Patterson and Hostetler in Cleveland representing the company said the request for a contempt citation is based on instances of violence which occurred since Judge Mikus issued an injunction against the Teamsters Union representing the employees The injunction limited pickets to two at each entrance at the company s head quarters on Butternut Ridge Road and also enjoined the union and its members from interfering threatening or intimidating persons working for or doing business with the company Facing the possible contempt citations are Gary Lindemann a spokesman for the striking workers and John Womack A driver and a company official signed affidavits claiming Womack smashed a truck windshield with a picket sign and a private car with a golf club in separate altercations Wednesday A subpoena was also issued to Tom Dangerfield C T photographer who took pictures of strikers and members of the sheriff s department when restraining orders were issued Charles Mooney labor relation representative for Browning Fertis Industries of which Brotherton is a division charged Thursday the union was violating the injunction in every way He said he was considering asking for a contempt citation James Stockard secretary treasurer of Local 571 said I can t babysit the men 24 hours a day but I am confident Turn to page A 4 Col 4
