Auto mechanic dies after unapproved artificial heart use
A 33 year old auto mechanic from Tucson died after his second transplanted heart failed following eleven hours with an unapproved artificial Phoenix Heart at the University of Arizona Medical Center. Doctors and family said the interim device kept him alive and performed well despite not being federally approved for humans. The patient, Thomas Creighton, was a divorced father of two. his death was due to heart failure tied to pulmonary hypertension.
