Doctors defy autopsy order to transplant kidneys
In New York Jacobi Hospital surgeons removed the kidneys from 23-year-old Danny Sulsona, a gunshot victim, to transplant to two patients. The medical examiner objected, seeking an autopsy to determine cause of death, while doctors argued autopsy would ruin the kidneys. A court hearing was set for Wednesday to resolve the legal definition of death. Sulsona was shot in the Bronx, showed no brain activity, but his heart remained beating with a machine before kidney removal after parental consent.
