McCarthy challenged to bring charges in Senate hearing
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy testified before a Senate Foreign Relations Sub Committee that a U S woman representative to the United Nations, Dorothy Kenyon, is affiliated with 28 Communist front organizations. Invasion Fleet Heads Far Island Near Hainan
Nationalist forces on Hainan report planes and warships from the island intercepting a Communist invasion fleet leaving the mainland. The convoy aims for Weichow in the Gulf of Tonkin as a route to the western coast of Hainan. A separate dispatch says 900 Communist troops were wiped out on Hainan's northwest coast with 400 killed and 400 captured. 100 escaped. 15 Killed As Airliner Hits House
A twin engined airliner crashed into a house four miles west of Wold-Chamberlain Field during a blizzard, killing 15 people aboard and two children in the home. An 8 year old boy and a 10 year old sister died in their beds as the plane exploded, and a 16th victim was later counted. Hundreds fought flames as volunteers and police battled the blaze in the upper middle class neighborhood while crowds watched in bitter cold. The Northwest flight from Washington to Winnipeg struck a flagpole near Fort Snelling Cemetery before crashing.
