Wildmon's NBC boycott starts with misfire and backlash
New York Rev. Donald Wildmon's Coalition for Better Television opened a boycott against NBC and RCA at a Washington press conference. The list wrongly included Gibson Greeting Cards, Hertz Rent A Car and RCA Records, drawing swift rebuke from NBC and critics like Peggy Charren, who cited petitions and warned of censorship while Gibson protested the error. Wildmon insisted 11 network demands would curb sex and violence, but the plan risks harming Christian allies and the broader effort.
