Amherst council bids to protest federal funds cuts
Amherst City Council's Finance Committee approved a resolution protesting proposed elimination of city funding from the federal budget by a 5 to 2 vote. Dissenters were Councilmen Cora Godfrey and Jim Gammons. The panel slated the measure for floor debate on Monday March 11 as budget hearings proceed at city hall.

Hospital chief speaks in Columbia Township meeting
Kathy Judge of South West General Hospital spoke at the Columbia Township Trustee meeting explaining current hospital programs and a new advertising campaign. The trustees accepted a retirement resignation, discussed EPA approvals for a concession stand, approved a library pad reconstruction bid of 1175 dollars, and scheduled upcoming board and zoning actions. Cemetery rules require removal of artificial decorations by March 11. Philip Sheridan led the Army of the Shenandoah in 1864 65.
