U S authorities monitor reports from Moscow as Soviet Premier Stalin’s illness takes a turn for the worse. The development adds uncertainty to international relations and domestic policy expectations amid ongoing tensions.
Stalin’s condition worsened to a deep coma as Pravda urged loyalty to the leadership. London sources noted mentions of Nicolai Lenin Stalin and Georgi Malenkov signaling a possible succession plan in event of death.
Carl Deeds announced his resignation as Lorain County Agricultural Extension Agent effective April 1. He will join Greenhouse Tomato Packers Co operative at Berea to handle public relations and educational work. Deeds has served since January 2, 1946 having previously been a vocational agriculture teacher and Amherst basketball coach.
County Commissioner Oscar G. Dunn challenged a proposed juvenile detention garage at the Oberlin County Chil dren's Home. He cited a letter from former commissioner Thomas McGeachie as chair of a citizens advisory group and questioned the group’s continued existence and its authority in backing levies. Dunn said the state public building inspection department had been asked to review the Oberlin garage for possible detention use.

Jesse DeLeon 21 of Cleveland faces a first degree manslaughter charge in the killing of 48 year old John Charles Bradley in Oberlin Monday night. A police judge fixed a $1000 bond and referred the case to the grand jury. DeLeon was taken to Cleveland for a lie detector test but volunteered a new statement on how the shooting occurred. Bradley died from seven bullet wounds. authorities say the gun could not have fired itself.
More than 500 people attended the 18th Dairymen Banquet at LaGrange High School. Carl C. Byers, Parma Schools superintendent, spoke after an invocation by Rev. Dale Clark. Swiss steak dinner followed. awards went to three high school essay winners and two best butter fat producing herds in the county. Byers emphasized humor in daily life.
Washington reports show price ceilings lifted on bread automobiles laundry services many home appliances while beer and coffee await action. President Eisenhower says no clear gouging but warns some price rises may occur in appliances laundry and dry cleaning sectors. He outlines policy on draft espionage and offshore lands.
Elyria on hold as no word arrives from the Ohio Turnpike Commission after Neely Powers and the Elyria Citizens committee presented the Wilbur Watson Associates report on February 18. Land agents push right of way purchases for the northern route while city officials consider legal action if no reply is received soon.
The Ohio Supreme Court refused to intervene in Michael L. O'Leary's perjury conviction from Sheffield Lake. He was found guilty of false testimony to a state examiner and a grand jury regarding a land purchase, with sentenced term of one to ten years. The case had centered on H L Allen acting as a dummy to conceal profits.
County commissioners cut the Baird road bridge limit in Henrietta township from 10 tons to three tons after weaknesses were discovered. County Engineer Donald E. Patterson requested the reduced limit to prevent damage and ensure safety.
Mrs Wilda Peterson 37 of 39075 Detroit road Avon was injured when a truck driven by Alanzoe Shank 28 of Fostoria Ohio ran out of control on Route 10 near Route 57 and struck her car. Peterson was admitted to Elyria Memorial Hospital with a fractured collar bone and possible rib injuries. Shank received a reckless driving citation and must appear in court March 7.
G Ralph Terry city council president named citizen members for the annexation committee at the Monday night meeting. Appointees include Kenneth Lord Walter Decker John Hovis with Lord serving as chairman and citizens Ralph Standen Larry Ashhenbach Herb Meister Art Schaber and Russ Stokley also named. The panel will study the general situation and possibilities.
The Elyria Chapter Red Cross reports its Home Service and field operations support service members and families through hospital workers, volunteers, and unit staff. Financial aid to servicemen and dependents totaled 10 630 100 dollars, up 500 000 from last year, with a 1953 fundraising plea urging local donations.
