Not guilty plea in babysitter charged with child's drowning death
Elizabeth Zenda, 48, pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in the drowning of 22 month old Annie Flynn and the near drowning of 23 month old Jaxon Flynn at a Pittsfield Township home day care. Zenda was freed on bond and is due back in Lorain County court next week.

Ohio House expands protection orders to dating violence
The Ohio House passed bipartisan House Bill 1 to allow dating violence victims to obtain civil protection orders. Current law restricts orders to those with children or who are married or cohabitating, with Ohio and Georgia as remaining gaps. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Nathan Manning and Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, won 92 to 2 after years of cases where victims could not seek such protections.

Teen to stay in state custody for beating death
A 16-year-old boy will remain in the custody of the Ohio Department of Youth Services until age 21 for his role in the 2015 beating death of Carlisle Township man. The teen cooperated with prosecutors in the case against Bishop Howard, who pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and received life without parole after killings in August 2015.
