Ford water rates may rise eightfold for Ford, city

LORAIN Ford Motor Company faces a potential eightfold jump in water and sewer charges as the plant plans to triple waste flow. The city will triple industrial rates, with Ford’s daily bill moving from about 70 to over 600 dollars amid a state order limiting discharges. Construction ties Ford to the city sewer line on West Erie Avenue as a treatment plant can handle the extra load. The city also seeks a new community development director, with several applicants and a salary too low to attract many. A separate fire damages a home on W 29th Street from an overheated improvised incinerator, causing heavy damage to the $25,000 house and $8,000 contents.
