March Brings Arctic Cold and Early Spring Hopes

March opened with near record low readings dipping to five degrees and a high of 20 degrees in North Ridgeville. Weather observer Ray Diederich noted February averaged 23.4 degrees, six degrees warmer than last winter and eight warmer than the bitter 1978 winter, shaping expectations for a lamb-like start to spring on March 21.

Sohio Gas Price Cut Strains Stations as Demand Surges

Sohio lowers prices by three cents across fuels prompting station shortages at company outlets while independents report ample supply. Managers Kurt Taber and Ron Nelson describe lines, filled lots, and anticipated Monday deliveries as prices range from 1.01 to 1.14 per gallon with independents delaying changes until new shipments arrive.

Gas by the liter rolls out at Lorain Shell stations

Shell officials announced that 10 Lorain County Shell dealers will sell gasoline by the liter, nine ready by Monday, with Wellington holding back. In Lorain at Mac H. Nott's Shell the sign shows Self Service 29.9 Regular 30.9 Unleaded Per Liter. Shell district manager Archambault says pricing by the liter is inevitable and will require new computers or conversions. Sohio declined immediate changes, citing half gallon pricing and gradual pump upgrades.

Talks to start for hostages in Colombia
