Elderly woman crashes White House gate in 1978 incident
Jane Ashman 67 of La Jolla California drove a 1966 Ford Galaxie into the South Gate near West Executive Avenue at 7 35 pm est. She was arrested for damaging government property, unharmed, and taken to a Metropolitan Police station. The incident follows a prior gate crash at the White House several weeks earlier.

In St Paul on December 30 Evelyn Jablonski faced a robbery as a BB gun bluff failed. When a robber fired on officers, police fired back and arrested the bandits. Jablonski, a bookkeeper, kept her nerve and returned to work after the incident. She was later named Citizen of the Year by banking officers.
