Carter halts B1 bomber production after review

Mall fireworks finalized after traffic and safety talks

City officials, Elyria Jaycees and Midway Mall officials met to resolve issues threatening Sunday night fireworks at the mall. Police chief feared safety concerns but progress came as 10 officers signed up. mall owners will fund police protection. Traffic plan may funnel most traffic onto Rt 57.

Amherst money found in city hall tied to inspector

A stash of money and checks, possibly up to ten thousand dollars, was found in two drawers of a file cabinet in Amherst City Hall. Suspected fees from suspended Building Inspector Rari Kayser were involved as Mayor Anthony DePaola suspended him for failing to forward fees and reports. The funds are being counted by city staff and an audit is underway.

United Way Sets $2.2 Million Goal for 1978 Campaign

United Way of Greater Lorain County aims for a $2.2 million goal for its 1977 fund drive to fund 1978 area agency services. The target marks a 7 percent rise from last year’s $2,051,425, with three new agencies added and two dropped after reviews by the Allocations Committee. Alvin Hillegass to head the drive. committee notes some programs are cut due to funding limits.

Street name changes in West River area take effect tomorrow

After two years of planning by the Community Development Department a map prepared by the C-T shows the changes. Lake Avenue from Lowell Street to West River Road becomes Gateway Boulevard Beach and Vulcan become Gateway Boulevard Huron Street renamed Fremont Street Lodi Street to present Lake Avenue becomes Lake Avenue Lorain Boulevard extended to West River Road West River North and South designated as West River Road with house numbers unchanged.

Love Is creator’s widow to have late husband’s baby

London United Press International reports New Zealand born cartoonist Kim Casali plans artificial insemination using her late husband Roberto Casali’s deep freezing sperm. Roberto died of cancer 15 months ago. Kim, 35, expects their child next week as a lasting gift and memory.
