Four Persons Hurt In Traffic Mishaps
Four traffic accidents over the weekend left four people injured and three arrested. Nine year old Betty Jane Oswalt of Elyria was struck while biking on North Ridge road. the driver, a 17 year old unlicensed youth, was held for juvenile court. The vehicle had faulty brakes and the driver fled the scene before returning. Saunders, owner of the car, was fined for permitting an unlicensed driver and for faulty brakes. In a separate crash on Route 20 east of Route 76, three Cleveland residents were injured when their car skidded and struck a pole on a wet pavement. The injured were Margaret Bellezza, Wilma Bellezza, and Paul Keiper. Continued on Page 2.

Boy Drowns at Amherst Pond Daring Swim Dare
Robert Dale Rutledge 12, son of Mr and Mrs George Rutledge of Taylor Street, drowned at the artificial pond of Harry Nicholls at 506 South Main Amherst. Witnesses say he swam toward the center before sinking and surfacing four times. The pond was not for swimming and Nicholls planned it as a lily and fish pond. He was a fifth grade student at Amherst school and a member of the Amherst Methodist Sunday school. Services set for 2 pm Wednesday at Amherst Methodist Church.

New Tractor Damaged By Fire On Farm
On Becker road near the Boy Scout camp in Henrietta a newly purchased tractor owned by Harold and Keith Buchs caught fire while starting. The gasoline tank exploded and the pump hose ignited, spreading to the barn roof. No injuries were reported though danger arose. Insurance status on the tractor was not learned.

Amherst Soldier Beaten After Car Stop On Franklin Avenue
