Nixon faces waning Democrat aid in Vietnam policy

In Washington the House rejected a Mansfield amendment seeking a U S withdrawal timetable and a prisoner return. The vote 219 to 178 showed growing Democratic backing for an end-the-war line, though Nixon kept GOP alignment to push the measure down. Negotiations on draft extension follow.

Cleveland asked to explain Lake Erie sewage leak

Cleveland officials were urged by state health engineer Hagerty to file a complete two week report detailing the plant breakdown cause, containment steps, and future preventive measures.
