Alternate Proposal Cuts Cash Cost Bridge Park Site Purchase
Elyria city officials won approval to buy 17 acres on East River Street for a future bridge park and swimming pool. The Markham Nursery property would cost 420,000 paid over two years with stock retained by the seller, a plan supported by five council members. The deal includes a greenhouse and nursery equipment and aims to use 600 feet of buried irrigation pipe, with funds drawn from the Turnpike settlement balance. Neighbors initially opposed but later agreed not to block the plan after assurances of a buffer to reduce noise and traffic impacts.
