In Lorain County, Antonio Robles will face trial on murder and felonious assault charges for the May 2013 death of DeAndre McDowell. A visiting judge refused to dismiss the charges after Robles’ defense argued late discovery and delays.
A 30 year old Grafton woman Shannon Covey received a three year prison term after pleading no contest to burglary tied to a six month string in Liverpool Township with her husband Jerimiah Covey who faces eight or more years at a July 28 sentencing. The couple linked to 13 burglaries. deputies followed their vehicle near an attempted robbery in Granger Township. In Elyria Lorain, Pablo Soto 42 pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery robbery and felonious assault after two McDonalds bathroom attacks on Nov 26 and 28 2013. A nine year sentence was promised in exchange for the plea with sentencing set for July 7.
Willard area Buurma Farms, a 118 year old 2500 acre family operation, runs a busy, well oiled system of sorting and packing. The Lorain based Second Harvest Food Bank sources fresh produce from Buurma for summertime farmers markets and local distributions in North Central Ohio.
PNC will shut its 341 Broad St. Elyria branch on Sept. 19 and consolidate operations at 126 Second St. The move follows a rise in online banking and ATM use, with the company offering internal transfers for Broad Street staff. Nearby branches include 405 Midway Blvd. and 5320 Abbe Road.
Brian Jury, 39, was convicted on two counts of rape two counts of abduction and one count of felonious assault in the November incident involving a Lorain woman. He was acquitted of attempted murder and faces sentencing July 14 potentially adding years to his prison term.
