Poor wheat crop forecast in Ohio despite harsh winter

Ohio's 1978 winter wheat crop is forecast at 41 million bushels, the smallest since 1973 and 31.4 million bushels below last year. Record low fall temperatures ice cover and slow thaw plus rains this spring drive the predicted low yield. Thin stands and black spots appear in many fields as wet conditions prevented top dressing.
