Two Arrests In Crackdown On Illegal Fireworks Sales

Elyria police and Lorain County deputies seized sparklers and cracker balls in a crackdown on illegal fireworks. Florian L Kubuske paid a $25 fine in Mayor's Court after pleading guilty to the sale. Deputy Rosso and officers confiscated hundreds of sparkler packages and a torpedo product at local stores.

Elyria Files New Pike Turnpike Trial Motion

The city of Elyria filed in common pleas court a motion for a new trial in the turnpike dispute. City Solicitor Richard Baird said. A city turnpike negotiation committee was appointed today. Judge Arthur Tudor will rule on the motion. it moves toward an appeal.

Cleveland Heights Pastor Appointed To Elyria Church

Dr Earl R Henderson a long time pastor at Church of the Cross Cleveland Heights will become pastor of First Methodist Elyria in an exchange with Dr James H Siward. The change will be announced at the North East Ohio Conference session at Lakeside tonight. Henderson a Baldwin Wallace graduate earned an honorary doctorate in 1948 and studied at Boston University. He previously served in Ravenna and Youngstown and has chaired evangelism work in the East Conference. He has officiated at football games for 15 years and is active in Rotary Kiwanis and Masons. He led youth evangelism and church outreach efforts.

A congressional committee disclosed that two former Soviet secret police lieutenants deserted the USSR and were granted political asylum in West Germany, with one colonel to testify Monday on the Kremlin terror machine. Aged Woman Taken From West St Shack To Hospital

A 72 year old Elyria woman Mrs Olive Smith living at 519 West St was found very ill and without food for days. City officials described her shack as deplorable and began an investigation to learn how long she had lived there. Police found 108 in her pocketbook and the Salvation Army had provided food the day before.

Wave hits Montrose Beach fisherman scare

A sudden seiche swept 16 to 20 fishermen into Lake Michigan off Montrose Beach Chicago. Two drowned and three others remained missing as Coast Guard boats searched the area. Townspeople Aid Young Family In Move To Frame Town

LaGrange residents acted as Good Samaritans for Kenneth Young and his family after doctors found the father ill with heart cancer.
