Israel secret service chief resigns over bus hijacker deaths
JERUSALEM AP The head of Israel's secret service Avraham Shalom resigned amid controversy over the 1984 beating deaths of two Palestinian bus hijackers. Cabinet secretary said the move followed all-night talks with Attorney General Yosef Harish Prime Minister Shimon Peres and other ministers. The resignation blocks a full inquiry, seen as a win for Peres and Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir who opposed an investigation.

Congress OKs three week daylight saving time extension
Congress passed a measure to lengthen daylight saving time by three weeks with a House voice vote sending the bill to the president. If signed, clocks would move ahead on the first Sunday in April next year, keeping the final day in October. The plan aims to improve quality of life and conserve energy while facing rural opposition over darker mornings for farming communities.
