A 700 foot high softball toss from Terminal Tower during Terminal Tower’s 50th anniversary celebration caused property damage and injuries. A bystander, Russell Murphy, received a bruised shoulder. Gayle Falinski suffered a broken arm. Mike Zarefoss caught a ball as crowds watched and the stunt will continue with a climber on Friday.

Stringer attacks Grunda over son’s promotion after defeat
County Prosecutor Joseph R. Grunda’s post election rise of his son to chief assistant at $21 525 drew fire from Daniel P. Stringer who beat Grunda in the Democratic nomination race. Stringer called the raise a misuse of public office and harmful to department morale. Grunda also lined up more appointments including a second son as investigator, a law clerk, and a secretary at minimum pay, yet says staffing remains hard with employment uncertain beyond January 1.
