Indians Attendance Trend Reflects Ownership Attitude
As of late June 1948 the Indians led the American League in home attendances at Cleveland Stadium, aiming to pass 1,000,000. Through 27 home games the club drew 903,212, averaging 33,452. Road drawing was solid but lagged the home surge, while ownership shifts from Alva Bradley to Bill Veeck are cited as a factor. Ex-Illinois stars like Lou Boudreau and Howie Judson populate the majors, with Bobby Feller’s tough day against the Yankees noted alongside his high strikeout total.
