Enlistments In National Guard Halted At Noon
Columbus Ohio National Guard ground forces enlistments were halted at noon today while air force groups will continue accepting volunteers. Assistant Adjutant General Kenneth Cooper said the stop order was issued arbitrarily after reports showed ground strength near 10 500 men. The Army Department setting a 12 000 ceiling on Ohio ground forces prompted doubt that late enlistments not yet tabulated would push past the limit. President Truman’s peace time draft law ends the grace period for avoiding the draft by joining the reserve.
