Buckeye States close after nine days of mock government
About 2,700 elected high school officials resign today as Buckeye Boys' State and Buckeye Girls' State end. 1,300 girls gathered at Capital University and 1,400 boys at Bowling Green State University to form cities, elect officials, pass laws, and hear speeches from real public officials. Girls' State Governor Liz Bernard and others say the experience shapes views and future plans, with goals ranging from political careers to party leadership. State employees aided operations, issues included nuclear power, education, health, employment, safety, and competency tests for teachers.
