Jackie Hurst a 15 year old from 137 Bath Street Elyria enjoys a dip at Cascade Park swimming pool amid cooler weather. Forecasters predict more of the same cool trend into Sunday with similar conditions expected.
Oberlin residents are told to boil water before use following a treatment plant malfunction. City manager Sherry Suttles said tests should finish after 7 p.m. and urged continued boil watch. A broken main between the water tower and Orchard Street worsened the situation, with low pressure across the city since Friday afternoon.
Ohio Energy Department will release 13.2 million gallons from a special set aside to prime suppliers as stocks dwindle. Energy Director Robert S. Ryan urged conservation, while northern Ohio stations were told to sell remaining gas and close pumps. Local dealer leaders urged open hours but face tight supply and rising prices as motorists wait in long lines.
Elyria drivers endure long pump lines as fuel shortages bite. At Bonded Oil Co station, as many as 14 vehicles queued before 8:30 a.m. Residents say they cut back on driving and plan to walk or phone more, while police report no traffic woes. Residents blame price hikes tied to political tensions and the Israel Egypt peace process.
Dick and Lydia Cole face bankruptcy closing Sterner's restaurant, losing their house and car as utilities are shut off. They blame downtown banks for underfinancing, vow to resettle elsewhere, and plan to start over after months of exhausting work and debt. The family keeps close though the business fails.
