Florida set to execute Sullivan and Proffitt next

Florida readies to execute Robert Sullivan, 31, and Charles Proffitt for murder at Florida State Prison near Starke. Both have exhausted direct appeals and seek federal stays as they press new constitutional challenges. Sullivan's petition sits before U S District Judge Jose Gonzalez in Fort Lauderdale. Proffitt before Judge William Terrell Hodges in Jacksonville.

Bundy trial opens on charges of Florida sorority murders

Theodore Bundy, 32, a former law student, goes on trial in Tallahassee for the January 15 killings at the Chi Omega house. Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy were slain and raped, while Kathy Kleiner and Karen Chandler were beaten. Cheryl Anne Thomas was hurt nearby. Bundy denies the murders as investigators call him a vicious criminal.
