Controversy Over Cleveland Emmy Awards Telecast
Controversy surrounds this year’s local Emmy ceremony at the Cleveland Playhouse next Saturday. WIEW-TV Channel 8 will not televise, joining WEWS-TV Channel 5 in a boycott of Best Newscast competition. Channel 8 cites business reasons and limited prime time pre-emptions, not lingering bad blood from past on-air incidents. Louis Gattozzi says Channel 8 will produce the ceremony themselves and retain control over airtime.
