Senate Debates National Drinking Age and Drunk Driving Penalties
The Senate will open debate next week on a nationwide 21 drinking age and automatic license removal for convicted drunken drivers. Two bills propose tougher penalties and highway funds ties, aiming to reduce teen driving over state lines for liquor. An alternative would grant safety funds without setting a 21 minimum. Meanwhile a Senate subcommittee approved more Salvadoran military aid for 1986, while backing for continued CIA support to Nicaraguan rebels falters amid broader defense spending negotiations.

Compromise Lets Hog Wrestling At Clay County Fair
A one year permit for a hog wrestling contest at the Clay County Fair in Barnesville Minnesota is approved under a compromise among the Minnesota Attorney General office the Minnesota Humane Society and the fair board. It must not occur again. James Heifert of the Fargo Moorhead Humane Society criticized the event calling it cruel and illegal. He warned it sets a bad precedent as hog wrestling expands to other fairs in the region. The fair opens June 28.
