June 22 Pittsburgh report says one miner was killed, six wounded, and a deputy sheriff injured in a Wildwood mine battle near Pittsburgh. Fourteen deputies faced about 150 strikers in a 15 minute confrontation as picketers, with an American flag, marched to defy an injunction banning mine picketing.
Ohio legislature eyed completion by week end as reconvened sessions debated a new revenue bill. Roberts Bill would raise excise taxes on public utility firms. House delays threaten quick adjournment while Senate pushes the $121 million appropriation bill for state agencies highways and related needs.
Joseph Herback and John Kroski of Lorain were arrested in Sandusky on charges of robbing the State Theatre and attempting to enter the Ohio Theatre at 3 a.m. A third man fled toward the Chippewa dock and vanished, possibly drowned. Seven prize tickets for a fight were found on Kroski.
Partly cloudy tonight and Tuesday with local showers in the north and west portions. Warmer in the extreme west tonight and in the northeast Tuesday. Yesterday high in Phoenix 102 and El Paso 98. Today's low in White River 34 and Cochrane 40. No major change expected in 36 hours. continued warm, slightly unsettled weather with possible isolated thunder showers.
Akron Ohio June 22 Patrolman Forrest L. Gold aged 56 was shot to death after a gun battle and hand to hand fight with Gus Tangulis of Youngstown and an accomplice. Gold wounded Tangulis in the groin before dying. Tangulis later captured by a railroad detective. companion fled.
Fifty Elyria boys at Camp Iss See Kes on the Vermilion River near the Y M C A camp will receive camp emblems and contest trophies as ten days of camping culminate Tuesday evening around the camp fire. The first session closes Wednesday when a second group arrives for an equal period. Visitors filled the camp yesterday to view the closing events and many attended morning church services in Brownhelm and Amherst.
Service Director J N Eidt announced that the erection of street signs will near completion with 60 more signs recently received. The program began in 1929 with 140 signs and added 120 in 1930.
Lorain Ohio June 22 Flames 70 feet high drew about 10000 spectators as a frame storage shed of Wood Lumber Co. on Twentieth Street and Elyria Avenue burned for two hours. Damage about 39000 with three box cars damaged. Fire possibly started by firecrackers set by children. Insurance coverage partially noted.
Sheffield Lake resident John Boor is jailed on a warrant charging sale of liquor from Mayor Fred Hosford's court. Boor is to be arraigned today in county jail.
Service Director J N Eidt announced West avenue from 16th street to Oberlin road will open to traffic this week after widening to 22 feet and boarder ditches closed with drain tile. Alley surfacing between West avenue and Chestnut begins today followed by John street pavement from Center to Maple. East avenue and 16th street will be widened and resurfaced to meet the new state road with Pine and Center streets nearing completion.
Garwood Goss 32 a Brighton farmer died after slipping into a sink hole in Black River near his home Saturday evening. His nephew Reuben Edwins summoned help and a local team including scouts and workers from A. T. and T. aided until Dr. Falls declared him dead after two hours. He is survived by his wife, his parents Mr and Mrs Herbert Goss and one brother Don. Funeral services set for Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the home with Rev. Moore officiating. Burial in Brighton cemetery under Keith Andrews.
Perry Arnert, 43, of Fitchville, was killed Saturday afternoon when the fly wheel of a feed mill detached and struck him while he operated the machine on his New London area farm. He left a wife Eunice and five children Grace Frank Dora Jeanne and Carl. A brother Fred and a sister Dora also survive. The funeral is set for 2 PM Tuesday at Fitchville M E Church with Rev H H Longberry officiating. burial in Fitchville.
Ross D. Robinson aged 53, once publisher of Martins Ferry and Bellaire papers, died after a stroke in City Hospital. He and his brother previously owned Ohio river ferries and a creamery after selling their newspaper.
Eight school buildings in Elyria will undergo improvements costing several thousand dollars with completion aimed before the September 8 reopening. Projects include painting at Franklin Hamilton McKinley and Garford, rustproofing steel high school bleachers, near completion of tennis courts, and a planned gym floor replacement and new underground steam line. Bids for boilers and repairs open July 8 with painting finishing by August 1 and some tasks by July 10.
In Lebanon Indiana a family reunion picnic saw two girls die and four others fall seriously ill after poison capsules were hidden in sandwiches. Virginia Simmons 14 and Alice Jean 10 perished while John Simmons 58 Lester Carr 18 Horace Jackson 50 were among those hospitalized. The Simmons family traveled 65 miles from Greenfield to attend Memorial Park gathering.
Grand jurors convened to consider roughly 20 cases, including fight cases, with the first degree murder charge against Henry Barres, 32, of Avon, for the May 30 shooting of Nellie Schindler to be considered tomorrow. Prosecutor Don W. Myers said jurors will finish their work tomorrow.
A fire caused by a defective hot water heater damaged the residence of J A Jackson at 125 Samuel Street this morning. The blaze started in a back room and spread to the kitchen and bathroom, badly injuring the house and contents. Firemen from Hose Company No 1 and Engine Company No 3 fought the flames for about thirty minutes.
The South Amherst home of John Leonard was destroyed by fire Saturday evening. Neighbors and the Amherst Fire Department fought the blaze, delaying loss but furniture was saved. Howard Leonard and Arthur Engle near neighbors also suffered fire damage. Loss estimated at $8000, partly insured. Defective wiring suspected as cause.
Myron F. Hutchinson, eastern sales manager for the Stinson Airplane Co. of Detroit, and his bride were killed when their aerial honeymoon flight from Boston to Roosevelt Field crashed in Pelham Manor New York. Hutchinson died instantly. his wife died later at New Rochelle Hospital.

In New York the stock market opened with a sharp rise as buying surged amid Hoover’s one year debt moratorium proposal. Prices moved up 1 to 15 points with active trading and blocks up to 20,000 shares. In Berlin the market followed suit with a broad boom lifting Industrials and chemicals as I. G. Farben jumped 15 points.
TOLEDO, O June 22 Mrs Marguerite Stalker woman's editor of the Toledo Blade was killed Sunday when a pistol she was placing in a grip discharged Her husband Herbert H Stalker found her dead in a bedroom at their home on return from a trip downtown A well known Ohio newspaper woman she had served as Red Cross secretary in World War I and had lived in Toledo 22 years She leaves a daughter Mrs Raymond Cunningham of Detroit and was preparing for a vacation tour in Northern Michigan.
Elyria city officials led by Mayor James A. Hewitt are organizing a market for unemployed residents to work on West Dover and Ridgeville farms. Early results saw 25 to 30 men hired by a West Dover farmer for short summer assignments. Farmers now indicate willingness to use Elyria labor, potentially providing part time work for about 200 men. A bulletin at City Hall will announce when help is needed, guiding workers to the hall to be matched with farmers. Many farmers who hire fruit and truck garden workers have previously gone to Rocky River for labor, where 200 to 300 men congregate daily at the Rocky River bridge. The city hopes to centralize this process in Elyria to shorten commutes and increase local employment.
Three bandits abducted Youngstown city manager S Solomon after binding him and two employees, forced him to open the Paramount theatre safe, and escaped with 1200 dollars. Solomon was later driven around the city and then taken back to the theatre where a night watchman let them in through a back door.
In Yellow Springs Ohio on June 22 the college expects to cover part of its operating deficit with a $12,690 pledge from faculty and staff. The gift equals about five percent of the college’s salary and wage budget.
Fire wardens investigated a two story brick business block housing a department store and a leather goods factory after a spectacular blaze caused $50,000 damage. Both occupants suffered serious damage.
Edward Gibbs a 38 year old Medina man disappeared while swimming to shore to secure aid after a small outboard boat capsized near Avon Lake Park in Lake Erie. Gibbs tried to reach a rowboat as Barbara Gibbs 4 Geraldine Moxey 21 and Sherrell McNeil Medina companions clung to the overturned craft. Coast Guards from Cleveland and Lorain searched several hours before recovering Gibbs. The tragedy occurred about 6 30 p m during a family picnic as Gibbs wife and relatives watched from shore. Gibbs was a partner in Medina Motors Co and chairman of the Medina Community Fund.
The Weather Bureau foresees at least two more hot days with partly cloudy skies tonight and Tuesday. Warmer conditions will spread across the state after showers in the north and west. Saturday and Sunday saw temperatures between 90 and 100 in nearly all cities as thousands seek relief. seven drownings and two heat prostrations are reported.
President Hoover returned to Washington from his Rapidan weekend camp before 9 am and went directly to his office without stopping at the executive mansion. He stepped from his car at the basement entrance and hurried to his desk escorted by Senator Smoot and Undersecretary Ogden Mills.
A grain elevator at Hooker Station near Lancaster Ohio was destroyed by fire last night with damage estimated at 15000 dollars. Nearby residents said the elevator was struck by lightning.
