County weighs patrol funding cuts tied to population shift
County leaders debate shifting state funds as U S Census data may move 81 percent of residents into cities. If cuts take effect, the county would receive 30 percent of about 18 million dollars, with rest spread to municipalities. Officials warn public safety could suffer.

Chronicle building upgrades press site amid green retrofit plans
The Chronicle moves through temporary access off Third Street while awaiting conditional approval for a building permit. Demolition and site prep started Tuesday with demolition of the blue steel frame for the new press over half its length. The project shifts the press through the east side and skylights will brighten the area as brick veneer is added. The first press run is planned for September. The Gazette, also owned by Lorain County Printing, will be printed here. The old Gazette press moves to Chronicle to handle extra jobs. The upgrade aims to boost color, page capacity and speed, with green construction cited by Phil Lahetta and Elyria officials.
