Ohio Senate weighs bills to merge prohibition unit and liquor control

In Columbus on June 21 the senate planned votes on Ackerman’s bill unifying the prohibition department with the enforcement arm of the liquor control commission and Gunsett’s bill creating new automobile license fee tiers. Ackerman cited savings and White’s approval in principle as the budget flanks the measure. The fiscal plan estimates a biennial saving of about 200000, while Gunsett details horsepower based license costs from 840 to 4.20 depending on age. The chamber also revises revenue shares to the State Highway department and cities and counties, rejects taxing taxicabs, and sets trackless trolleys as motor vehicles for taxation. A school building code revision proposal seeks a governor-appointed committee to modernize the code, with Mosier citing a 360 million spend on school buildings since 1911.
