Wellington goes green with grant funded lights and solar
Wellington's push for renewable energy grows with a 1.1 million federal grant shared with Elmore Oak Harbor and Oberlin. The village uses 50 000 of the funds for LED streetlights an electric solar powered truck and 34 250 watt panels. The truck uses sunlit energy to patrol the town consuming 18 to 19 kilowatt hours per day and avoiding nearly four tons of carbon based fuel. Officials plan a 2.5 megawatt solar farm as further town wide upgrades. Representative Marcy Kaptur secured the grant ensuring local projects as Wellington moves toward greater solar power.
