Thunderstorm fuels fire at Grafton Correctional Institution
A severe thunderstorm pounded southeastern Lorain County on Tuesday, downing 20 utility poles and many trees near Route 83 and Capel Road. A fire then broke out at the Grafton Correctional Institution with investigators unsure if storm damage caused it. Downed lines and track closures affected Route 83 and rail traffic. Between 700 and 1,000 residents lost power. Fire Chief Glen Thompson cited uncertainty about a storm connection to the fire.
