Bush Ads Lift Kerry Negatives Yet Bush Maintains Edge
Bush re election team ran an 80 million dollar ad blitz over three months raising Kerry negatives while not eroding Kerry as a viable alternative. Pew poll shows Kerry’s favorability dropping from a 2 to 1 advantage to about half favorable and four in ten unfavorable. Analysts say Bush gains come from portraying him as a strong leader and highlighting Kerry’s perceived inconsistencies. Kerry’s campaign slips, including a misstep over Afghanistan and Iraq aid voting, further affected his image.
