Ohio to regulate audiologists and speech pathologists
Ohio advances a bill to license speech pathologists and audiologists, joining 18 states with regulation. The measure creates the Ohio Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology to set qualifications, issue licenses by exam, and protect consumers, with existing practitioners able to use ASHA certification to avoid exams. Governor Rhodes expected to sign. Celebrezze cites abuses in hearing aid cases as motive. The bill passed both houses and awaits enactment.
