County Auditor C. S. Kelser declared no tax penalty on payments before July 20, granting immunity if paid by July 29. Treasurer N. D. Backus and county commissioners argued the extension offers little aid, noting books close dates and real estate reappraisal may delay December tax collection.
Canon City Colo June 19 tension rose at the Colorado State Penitentiary after a special guard detachment searched cells for a reported dynamite cache. A stool pigeon had warned Denver authorities of enough dynamite to wreck the prison, capping ten days of trouble including escapes and a threatened riot by Chester Strom. Deputy Warden Roy Best led the search in Warden Crawfords absence. no explosives were found.

John James aged 39 a World War veteran hanged himself in the county jail at Circleville Ohio today. The note adds that weeks earlier Squire C E Poulson of Derby hanged himself in the same jail.

Six members of a Kansas City wholesale liquor ring surrendered to federal indictments and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate dry laws. Frank Fritzy Mulloy and Leo Schwartz led the group with four lesser aides Roy Barret Frank Martin Ralph Rosenberg and Louis Burcer also admitting guilt in Federal District Court before Judge Albert Reeves.

London reports Andrew Mellon United States secretary of the treasury was invited to discuss war debt revisions. A bank representative took part in talks with Montagu Norman governor of the Bank of England, suggesting deeper official significance than Mellon acknowledges.
Watt M. Barnett president of the State Security Bank which closed here last January was indicted by a Muskingum County grand jury. The four indictments contain 30 counts of alleged embezzlement larceny and misappropriation of funds. Barnett began arranging bond.
