Elyria faces budget strain as carryover shrinks and taxes loom
Elyria’s general fund carryover fell from about 3.2 million to roughly 2.7 million as city revenue lags spending. Finance Director Ted Pileski warns 2014 may require further cuts unless the November income tax renewal passes. Mayor Holly Brinda highlights risks to about 11 million over 18 months and urges overtime cuts and contract rework. The estate tax repeal slashes 2013 and 2012 distributions, shrinking expected state inheritances from 939k to about 50k for the first installment.
