Avon Lake seeks marker for two War of 1812 sailors
The Avon Lake Historical Society plans an $800 marble marker for two sailors said to be buried in Lake Shore Cemetery after the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. City officials acknowledge the graves are unverified, yet the marker would honor the seamen with a ceremony planned near the 200th anniversary of the battle.
