Legal fees face competition after Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court ruled 8 to 0 that state and local bar associations may not enforce minimum fee schedules for lawyers. This shift allows clients to bargain over fees, potentially lowering costs for real estate, wills, divorces, and small businesses. The change ends a 179 year system, with broad declines in probate and real estate settlement fees noted.
