Steel Production To Increase In Youngstown District
Youngstown district steel plants will operate at 60 per cent next week, up four per cent from this week. The gains mark the highest rate since last fall and the best summer schedule since 1937, with Republic Steel adding a Bessemer Converter at Lansingville and three open hearth furnaces. Carnegie-Illinois Steel opens its 11th furnace at the Ohio Works, Youngstown Sheet and Tube adds its ninth furnace, and Republic Steel adds its ninth open hearth this week. The rise follows a pattern of four consecutive weekly gains totaling about 14 per cent.
