Plane crash on Middle Bass Island injures Westlake family
A single engine Piper PA 28 crashed on a private grass airstrip on Middle Bass Island near Put-in-Bay Sunday morning. Dale Peters 34 his wife Karen 28 and children Brad 11 Kevin 9 and Jill 7 were injured along with the pilot Dr Feite Hofman of Oberlin. The aircraft struck a tree tore off a wing flipped and burst into flames but all occupants escaped before the fuelled wreckage exploded. Police and firefighters responded and helicopters from Cleveland and Toledo airlifted victims to hospitals.
