Indians Win Bruising 1-0 Baseball Battle at Anaheim

Cleveland edged the Angels 1-0 at Anaheim Stadium in a game that felt like football. Vince Colbert, 4-1, pitched eight strong innings and Ray Fosse drove in the decisive run with a fourth inning single as Graig Nettles doubled. Ken Berry, ex Wichita State flanker, triggered a ninth inning melee by delivering a cross body block on Jack Brohamer as Cleveland preserved the shutout. Brohamer and Berry exchanged words after the smaller incident. Colbert earned the win. Clyde Wright took the loss for Los Angeles. The Indians moved within four games of Baltimore and Detroit in the AL East as the Angels slipped further back in the West.
